An analysis of students' listening skill based on teacher-made podcast ( A case study at SMKN 5 Kota Serang in pandemic situation)
Many students have difficulty mastering listening skill. Podcasts have grown in popularity as a media for language learners to get extra listening practice both online and in the classroom. The relevance of podcasts to teaching English, on the other hand, needs further research. The purpose of this research is to analyze and describe how students at SMKN 5 Kota Serang use a new type of podcast called Teacher-Made to improve their listening skills, especially in descriptive text material. The writer took students of the class eleventh OTKP-4 as the population. This class consists of 22 students. Teacher-Made podcast is used to take their self-evaluation of one's performance in individual listening practice from that population. The research approach as it is using the case study due to the specific case in the pandemic situation. The writer used three kinds of instrument to collect the data. The first instrument is observation, second is interview, the third is document analysis. The result of this research showed that online learning activities using Teacher-Made podcast get percentage score of 78%. Based on the assesment category the percentage of 78% is in the good category, the writer knew that the students activities on the online class was reaching the standard of value. This analysis also found that the students had some great experiences as a result of listening to the Teacher-Made podcast. In this case, the writer found the impact of three aspects, the first of which is the student perception of Teacher-Made Podcast as a listening media. On these terms, the students believed that their understanding of the material being taught toward listening skill had improved, especially in descriptive text material, as indicated by some improvements in their listening task. The second, in terms of the Teacher-Made podcast's implementation in terms of online learning, the students were happy to have this Teacher-Made podcast applied in their online learning, because it was a more interactive and flexible media they had experienced. The last but not least, the findings on this research is also about the accessibility of this Teacher-Made podcast being used in this pandemic situation. On this terms, the students mostly witnessed it is very accessible in this pandemic situation.
