An Analysis of Test Item in The Eighth Grade Students on MTs Al-Khairiyah Bahari Jakarta 2020/2021 Academic Year
The Study Programme of English Education. The School of Teacher Training and Education. State Islamic University of Sultan Maulana Hasanuddin Banten. The research aims to measure the quality of items and to find the weak items from the summative test which have been carried out in MTs Al-Khairiyah Bahari Jakarta through item analysis. Afterward, the weak items are selected and revised to increase their quality. The population of this research was 71 students’ answer sheet of English summative test from two classes of the second semester of the eighth-grade students of MTs Al-Khairiyah Bahari Jakarta. The writer took 50% (36 answer sheets) from the population to be as the samples. All the samples were taken randomly and selected to get the group of the upper students and the lower students. The data from the upper students and the lower students were interpreted through the quantitative method. The results of the research have shown that through the calculation of Difficulty Level (DL), The writer finds 2 easy items, 18 fair items, and 5 difficult items. In addition, through the calculation of Discriminating Power (DP), the writer finds 17 good very items, 2 fair items, 3 poor items, and 3 very poor items which need to be revised. Based on the data above, it can be concluded that the English summative test which had been carried out in the second mid-semester of the eighth-grade students of MTs Al-Khairiyah Bahari Jakarta in the 2020/2021 academic year is good enough. Nevertheless, there are some poor items those need to be revised.
