Increasing students speaking ability through genre based approach (A Classroom Action Research At Class X MIA B Of MA Al-Rahmah Lebakwangi-Walantaka-Kota Serang-Banten)


The research was conducted based on the question of problem: 1). How is students speaking improvement taught by Genre Based Approach ? 2). How is Genre Based Approach applied in teaching speaking? The objective of the study was to find whether teaching Procedure text through genre based Approach is effective to improve the students’ achievement or not. The subject of this researcher was the eleventh grade students of MA Al-Ramah Lebakwangi. The subject of the study was 30 students. In collecting data, the researcher carried out two activities, the first activity cycle 1 the researcher gave students explanation about general structure of Procedure. The last activity cycle 2, the researcher gave a post test to measure the students’ improvements. The average of the students’ result in post-test cycle 1 was 65,83%, and in the post-test cycle 2 was 79,33%. It means that students’ achievement in speaking through procedure text increased significantly. Based on the study, it is found that genre based approach seems to be effective for increasing the students’ speaking ability in procedure text. The researcher hopes this method can be used by other teachers to enable students to write procedure text and perform in front of class. Keyword: Genre Based Approach, Procedure Text, Approach
