Investigating the implementation of bilingual system at Daar El Istiqomah (An Ethnography Study At Daar El Istiqomah Islamic Boarding School)


This study aims to gain an understanding of bilingualism learning proces in islamic boarding school Daar El istiqomah. The observation focuses on three components,namely space, actor and activity. This study uses the ethnographic method as an approach that includes space, actors and activities. The data used in this study are in the form of recordings, photos, videos and interviews. And the source of the data comes from the secretary and deputy head of the Islamic boarding school Daar El Istiqomah. The results of this study are the use of language and bilingualism learning systems in Islamic boarding schools that use the KMI system which refers to the Gontor Islamic boarding school, namely the system of using Arabic and English in daily activities as well as in formal education. With the support facilities that support language learning. Like magazines, wall writing, quotes that are placed in every corner of the room. bilingualism learning in el Istiqomah has two approaches, namely formal and informal. namely with formal learning that is held in the morning to afternoon using the language of instruction of arabic and English in certain subjects. and through environmental conditions that support the linguistic environment in Islamic boarding schools.
