The correlation between students’ emotional intelligence and their reading comprehension (A correlative study at the eleventh grade of SMA Al- Husen Tunjung Teja Kabupaten Serang)


This research investigates correlation between emotional intelligence and reading comprehension. This research was to find out to describe the correlation between students’ emotional intelligence and their reading comprehension. This study used a quantitative method with the correlational as the research design of study. This research involves 30 students as sample the eleventh grade of SMA Al- Husen Tunjung Teja Kabupaten Serang in academic year 20202021. The instruments used for collecting data were emotional intelligence questionnaire and reading comprehension test. It used Pearson Product Moment Correlation to analyzing the correlation and count the coefficient of correlation between variables. The research finding of the result showed that tcount was 2.242 which was higher than ttable (1.701) in the significance of 5% in which 1.701 < 2.242. Moreover, the result of r is 0.698 which was on medium level according to the table of interpretation of correlation product moment. Hence, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is rejected and null hypothesis (H0) is accepted. In conclusion, there is medium correlation between students’ emotional intelligence and their reading comprehension at eleventh grade of SMA Al- Husen Tunjung Teja Kabupaten Serang in academic year 20202021.
